Frequently Asked Questions

Why  do you only offer grades K5 through 10th?
As the church pastoral staff prayed regarding God’s desire for us to do a school, two things became evident.  It had to be God’s will for us and we needed to do it right.  After much prayer and having the opportunity to visit other schools, it became apparent that it would be best for the church and the community to start small and grow into the school.

Will you be adding additional grades?
YES!  Each year we plan on adding an additional grade.
We began in 2007 offering grades K4 through 4th.  Our high school grows every year.

Can my child graduate from CCA?
YES!  We add a grade every year, our first graduating class will be in 2015!

What makes CCA different from other schools?
Calvary Chapel Academy is a Christ-centered, nondenominational academy.   Our vision is to unleash each student’s God-given talents through Christ-centered academic excellence.  We are devoted to developing the whole person and instilling a lifelong passion for learning, leading and serving.

Are you accredited?
Yes! We are accredited through the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools (ACTS)

What is the average class size?
The average class size will range from 18-20 students in a class.

What type of student are you looking for?
We look for students who are motivated to pursue higher education, to grow in a personal faith in Jesus Christ and to serve the Lord, their families, and their communities.

Are parents welcome to be involved at CCA?
As we step out in faith on this huge endeavor, we know that that parent volunteers will be essential in the operation of the school.  We pray that parents can become involved in all aspects of CCA.

Do CCA students wear a uniform?
We have a ‘Standard of Dress” for our students to wear.   A standard of dress helps students to focus on Christ by eliminating undue focus on clothing and designer labels and a preoccupation with outward appearance. We want to be imitators of God by focusing on the heart.  Please refer to our Student Handbook for details.

Do you offer child care before and/or after school?
Yes, we have before and after school Extended Care.  Before school care is from 6:30am to 7:30am, after school care is from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

How are admissions decisions made?
Each student’s file is reviewed by the Admission Committee.   The admissions committee of CCA carefully and prayerfully weighs each application for enrollment based on the following criteria:

  • Affirmation of and compliance with the biblical standards or morality and ethics as taught and upheld by Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley and Calvary Chapel Academy
  • Willingness and desire to follow Jesus Christ
  • Regular involvement in a Bible-teaching church
  • Student’s grades, standardized tests, and conduct
  • Interview(s) with parents/guardians
  • CCA assessment results
  • Parent/Guardian commitment to uphold all school policies and procedures
  • Student’s desire to attend CCA
